The president of the United States, Donald Trump, has criticized this Tuesday the treatment that, in his opinion, the far-right candidate Marine Le Pen receives in France, considering that her "conservative" voice has been "mistreated" in her country. The North American leader has shown his closeness to the French leader, although he has pointed out that he has not yet made a decision on whether he will publicly express his support for the presidential elections of 2027.
Trump has also valued the sentence issued in March 2025 by a French court against Le Pen for embezzlement of European Union funds, a process that he has described as a case of "instrumentalization" directed against the leader of National Rally.
The head of the White House has also emphasized the strong position of French politics in the polls. "And right now she is leading (the polls)," the American president has pointed out, taking the opportunity to claim part of the momentum that, according to him, the right has experienced on the international stage.
As an example of this expansion, the Republican leader has specifically mentioned Latin America and, in particular, the recent victory of his ally Abelardo De la Espriella in Colombia, whom he has positioned as a reference for this new political stage in the region.
"South America was betting very heavily on the left. Now, everything is right," Trump has stated, describing an ideological shift that, in his opinion, has transformed the continent. "It is becoming a completely different place. A thriving place," he has pointed out before praising the figure of the Colombian president.
"'The Tiger,' they call him, a tough guy," he has commented about De la Espriella, whom he has presented as a symbol of a subcontinent that "is now extremely conservative, but said in a positive way."
