The President of the United States, Donald Trump, has left open this Tuesday the possibility of holding a meeting with his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, on the occasion of the upcoming G20 summit in Miami. The American leader has emphasized that the Russian leader wants to put an end to the war in Ukraine "as much" as the Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelensky.
"I know he would meet. We have already had a meeting in Alaska. I think he would be willing to have another. I don't know what will happen in Miami, but he will meet. He is willing to meet," he stated before the media, accompanied by Zelensky, with whom he held a meeting shortly after.
Trump mentioned Miami because the city will host the G20 summit on December 14 and 15, and he insisted that Putin "would like the war to end as much as President Zelensky."
"To be honest with you, it is time. Many people are dying. They don't want that. I think both want the war to end," he added, shortly before meeting with Zelensky on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York.
The head of the White House has remarked that his relationship with the President of Ukraine is "very good" and that both are "trying to find a solution" to a conflict that has been ongoing for more than four years, following the Russian invasion.
"I think it will be achieved. I really believe it. I am convinced that it will be achieved. The relationship is very solid, and with Europe, it is too. And you have already seen what just happened with Greenland, which has been something very special," he pointed out.
This same Tuesday, the Ukrainian president reiterated that he is prepared to sit down with his Russian counterpart on the sidelines of the G20 summit in Miami if he is ultimately invited, as he indicated in an interview granted to the German network DW.
