The authorities of Uganda have reiterated that the country remains "free of Ebola" and have concluded the monitoring of the 60 contacts related to the detected infection case in a Kenyan traveler, once the established 21 days of surveillance have been completed, according to what Health Minister Chris Baryomunsi reported this Sunday.
"As of today, October 25, 2026, Uganda continues to be free of Ebola," emphasized the Health Minister, who sent a message of calm to both the Ugandan citizens and international partners.
At the same time, the investigation into the case identified in Nigeria is ongoing, in coordination with the health services of that country and with international organizations. The work of the technical teams includes studying the available genomic sequences, verifying the movements of the infected person, and reviewing their contacts and activities during their stay in Uganda and on their journey to Abuja. Baryomunsi has assured that the conclusions will be made public as soon as they are ready.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health has intensified epidemiological surveillance at Entebbe International Airport, at the main land border crossings, and at several road checkpoints. All travelers entering Ugandan territory will have to undergo a health assessment by the port health services, with no exemptions for diplomats or United Nations personnel.
The border crossing between Uganda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo remains restricted to essential movements, such as those of humanitarian workers and transporters, according to previous decisions of the National Task Force. As part of regional cooperation, Uganda has collaborated in the establishment of three treatment centers in Congolese territory, which together have a capacity of 240 beds.
In this context, Baryomunsi has urged the population to comply with the recommendations of health authorities and has advocated for strengthening coordination among neighboring countries to cut transmission at its source. The minister has also reminded that a toll-free number has been set up to report possible suspected cases.
