British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has censured this Friday the attack registered in the Romanian city of Galati, in the east of the country and close to the borders with Ukraine and Moldova, after a drone impacted a residential building and left two people injured. The leader stressed that the episode constitutes a serious violation of NATO airspace.

"A Russian drone entered Romanian airspace and impacted a residential building, injuring civilians. This is a serious violation of NATO airspace," the British leader indicated in a statement about the episode in Galati, pointing out that the "aggression" against Ukraine and the attacks against civilians and civilian infrastructure "threaten the security of the entire continent."

"The United Kingdom unreservedly condemns these types of attacks," he stated, linking what happened in Romania with the intensification of Russian bombings in Ukraine and with recent threats directed at foreign diplomats to leave Kyiv.

"Time and again, Russia has shown that it has no respect for civilian life, for International Law, or for the sovereignty of its neighbors. This cannot be allowed to continue," Starmer insisted, underlining that London stands "shoulder to shoulder with Ukraine, Romania, and all NATO allies" in the face of "continued Russian aggression."

The incident occurs a few days after a Ukrainian drone mistakenly entered Estonian airspace and after Russian unmanned aircraft forced Latvia and Lithuania to activate alerts due to the possibility of new incursions into their territories, generating concern in the Baltic countries, which have warned that these violations "must not become a new reality."

In reaction to the attack, the President of Romania, Nicusor Dan, has ordered the expulsion of the Russian consul stationed in the port city of Constanta and the closure of the Russian Consulate in this Black Sea town, the main decision adopted after the emergency meeting of the Romanian National Defence Council.
