The U.S. Department of the Treasury announced this Wednesday that it has lifted the sanctions imposed on the president of the National Assembly of Venezuela, Jorge Rodríguez. The measure is part of the new stage of bilateral relations opened after the capture of the Venezuelan president, Nicolás Maduro, last January.

The decision has been made by the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), which has proceeded to remove the Venezuelan leader from its known "blacklist." Rodríguez is also the brother of the acting president Delcy Rodríguez, another relevant figure of chavismo.

Washington had already lifted in April the sanctions imposed on who was Maduro's "number two," nearly three months after he assumed the head of state. Both Jorge and Delcy Rodríguez had been under restrictions since September 2018, a provision approved during the first term of then-president Donald Trump.
