The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, has conveyed the support and closeness of the European Union to the victims in Venezuela after the two earthquakes, with magnitudes greater than 7 on the open Richter scale, which have caused at least 32 deaths and more than 700 injured people.

In a message disseminated in Spanish through her social networks, the head of the community executive stated: "We express our solidarity with all Venezuelans after last night's devastating earthquakes."

The German conservative leader added that she is thinking "especially of the victims and their families" and remarked at the end of her statement: "We are with you."

For her part, the acting president of Venezuela, Delcy Rodríguez, has raised the number of deaths to 32 and the injured to more than 700 due to the double earthquake of magnitudes 7.2 and 7.5 on the Richter scale registered in the north of the country. Furthermore, she warned that this toll does not yet include data from the state of La Guaira, which she described as a "disaster zone" and where she reported "dozens of collapsed buildings."
