The Ukrainian president, Volodimir Zelenski, has shown confidence that the United States will finalize before November 10 the next three-way meeting with Russia and has not closed the door to changing the place of the meeting, initially planned in the United Arab Emirates, due to the area going through "delicate moments".
"A lot of things are happening. Preparations are being made for a trilateral meeting that will be held in Abu Dhabi. We hope it will take place before November 10," he said this Wednesday in a press appearance in The Hague, together with the Dutch prime minister, Rob Jetten.
The leader has insisted on the need for the meeting to take place as soon as possible. "We need to hold the meeting. I hope it will be between November 6 and 10. We are awaiting the response from the American side," Zelenski has indicated, who trusts that Washington can close the details once the midterm elections in the United States conclude on November 3.
As he has explained, the meeting planned in Abu Dhabi, capital of the United Arab Emirates, remains on the agenda, although he has made it clear that the place of the meeting could be changed without altering the planned schedule.
"There are delicate moments in the Middle East. Perhaps we can change the venue. However, I believe we should not change the dates," Zelenski stressed. "After November 4 we will have a date," he predicted, according to the information released by the Ukrinform agency.
In contrast, the Ukrainian head of state has admitted that he cannot specify when a possible face-to-face with his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, would take place. "I don't know when we will have a meeting with Russia at the leaders' level, for now it depends on them because they have never before shown themselves in favor of it," he stated.
Zelenski has underscored the relevance of both leaders being able to directly address the most "delicate" issues in the negotiating process, including those related to the disputed territories and security guarantees.
In parallel, in recent hours the president of the United States, Donald Trump, has likewise conveyed his intention to meet "very soon" with Zelenski and Putin, after the "great progress" recorded in recent weeks.
