The Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albares, has stated this Thursday that it will finally be clarified who is behind the attacks that are affecting the Europe refrigerator warehouses and the bomb threats to airplanes, facts that he has described as “hybrid aggression.”
Albares made these remarks in an interview on TVE, collected by Europa Press, after the wave of bomb warnings in recent days that has forced the authorities to act on 27 flights, three of them with origin or destination in Spain, and on the sabotages of refrigerator warehouses of numerous European supermarkets, in which the temperature has been raised to 50 degrees, ruining the food stored.
“It will take some time to know what has happened but we will know,” the head of Foreign Affairs emphasized, who interprets these attacks as an attempt at “hybrid aggression and, in some way, psychological.” In his view, there are international actors seeking to weaken Europe because they consider it the main bastion of democracy and the “great hope.”
This role of the EU, he added, is something that “bothers those who prefer the law of the strongest” and who want Europe to “return to the Law of the Jungle.” According to Albares, the ultimate goal of these actions is to fracture European societies and erode the common project of the European Union.
The minister, however, admitted that it is not yet possible to determine within what timeframe the authorship will be known, since those who promote this type of operation usually take precautions so that the origin “remains in a gray area.”
Albares also recalled the complaints filed during the elections in Brazil about operations on digital platforms intended to interfere in the electoral process, and he said he is convinced that something similar will happen during the Spanish campaign for the elections of November 29, as these are “especially fragile” periods.
However, he explained that measures are being adopted under the umbrella of the national security strategy, although he acknowledged that their effectiveness can never be one hundred percent. In his view, what matters is that the citizens who go to the polls know about the existence of these interferences and can vote calmly and with sufficient information. That is why, he considers that a citizenry aware of these attacks is the best tool to counter them.
He asks the PP for explanations about the Koldo case
In relation to the statements by Koldo García, in prison after being convicted by the Supreme Court in the masks case, in which he claims that the lawyer for the Partido Popular offered him one million euros in exchange for testifying against Pedro Sánchez, Albreras has said that this is "something very serious and worrying".
"The PP has to give explanations because we are facing an enormous and very worrying gravity for Spanish democracy," the minister emphasized, calling for public clarifications from the Popular leadership about these accusations.
