Frente Amplio has reacted this Wednesday to the defeat of US president Donald Trump in the legislative elections in the United States, interpreting the victory of the Democratic Party as a precedent of what, in its view, should happen in Spain on November 29 next, when the general elections are held and PP and Vox aspire to govern.

In a message circulated on the social network 'X' and collected by Europa Press, the group has said that "Trump's defeat in the United States is a defeat of the techno-oligarchs and of the austerity and chainsaw policies," linking this outcome to Lula da Silva's victory in Brazil and predicting that on the 29th there will be a new "progressive triumph" in Spain. "We must defend working families and strengthen public services," the party has insisted.

In the same vein, Frente Amplio's candidate for the Presidency of the Government, Ada Colau, has stressed that, in the recent international electoral processes, such as those held in Brazil, Serbia and the United States, it has been highlighted that "citizens can defeat the far right and its techno-oligarch allies."

The former mayor of Barcelona has pointed out on her social networks that "On 29N, Feijóo and Abascal must be defeated in order to continue expanding rights in Spain," linking the outcome of the Spanish elections to the consolidation of new social achievements.

"It is time to expand rights"

The head of the list of Frente Amplio for Madrid, Emilio Delegado, has recalled that both Flávio Bolsonaro in Brazil and Trump in the United States have been defeated at the ballot box, which, in his view, implies that "the attempt to extend reactionary ideas around the world is clearly weakened." Through a message on 'X', he has called for not pulling back: "This is not a time to be on the defensive; it is the hour to expand rights, freedoms, democracy: all the way."

For his part, the spokesperson for Frente Amplio, Pablo Bustinduy, has stressed that Trump has lost, describing the result as "one of the most humiliating defeats that one can remember in the US." In his analysis, he has linked this setback with other recent cases: "Bolsonaro lost, and he ran away like a vulgar criminal. Netanyahu lost, and he will end up sitting before a court for his crimes against humanity (...) On 29N, it is Feijóo and Abascal who have to face it," he concluded, also serving as minister of Social Rights, Consumption and Agenda 2030.
