The party Democracia 21 has announced its candidacies for Madrid and Barcelona for the elections on the upcoming November 29, incorporating among the top five positions of each list a doctor, an "expert" in "affordable housing," a "landscape ecologist," and representatives from the business sector.
According to the formation detailed in a statement released this Tuesday, these are lists that aim to "open politics to people with accredited professional experience, their own criteria, and a vocation for public service," and to promote "an active role" of young people in political life.
Democracia 21 will only run in these two constituencies in this election, a decision framed as "a phased implementation of a national project" with the goal of being present "throughout the territory in the upcoming electoral calls." The party has gathered the required endorsements to register the candidacies and claims to have exceeded "by 30%" the minimum number of signatures required.
In the Madrid constituency, the list is headed by the presidential candidate, Miriam González. In second place is Manuel Rodríguez, "architect from the Polytechnic University of Catalonia and expert in real estate promotion and affordable housing," who will focus his work on "one of the main problems of the country."
The third position is occupied by Carmen Truyols, "a doctor specializing in anesthesiology and resuscitation, trained at the Gregorio Marañón University General Hospital; Juan González-Barba, a career diplomat since 1991 with experience in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where he was the director general for the Maghreb; and in fifth place, Marice Sánchez-Maican, "specialized in digital transformation and artificial intelligence."
In Barcelona, the candidacy is led by David Andrés, a former worker of the consulting firm Deloitte and founder of a consulting company for "startups." In second place is Noelia Rebón, a doctor in Law, "specialized in legal protection of children and adolescents, bullying, cyberbullying, and Educational Law."
Completing the top positions on the list are Fernando Aparicio, a technical engineer in Public Works from the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya and founder of a company "dedicated to consulting and advising construction companies"; and Susa López, responsible for "financial instruments" in a non-profit organization that operates in developing countries and emerging electric markets".
In fifth place is José Francisco Lascurain, an "ecologist of the landscape" with research work on "the management of peri-urban natural spaces".
