Democracia 21 wants to place artificial intelligence at the center of its economic modernization proposal. The head of the party, Miriam González, has defended promoting its implementation in all of Spain’s productive sectors and analyzing at the same time its consequences for employment in order to anticipate possible job losses.

In an interview given to Europa Press, González has said that the AI must become a “productivity factor” for the Spanish economy, especially in those activities in which the country has the capacity to compete. Her proposal is to extend its incorporation into the business fabric with the participation of both companies and public administrations.

The leader has also called for mechanisms to observe how the impact of this technology evolves in the labor market. The goal, she explained, would be to have information about the changes that occur in the different sectors and to design measures to mitigate their possible negative effects.

Democracia 21 criticizes the lack of political debate about AI

Miriam González believes that parties with representation in parliament are not paying enough attention to the transformation that artificial intelligence can bring about. In the interview, she said that the political debate on this issue is practically closed and that the attention currently given to it is “zero”.

The president of Democracia 21 argues that Spain and much of Europe have fallen behind in the development of large language models, with some partial exceptions in countries such as France and Germany.

Given this situation, she has proposed studying international experiences, such as Japan’s, in order to debate how to incorporate artificial intelligence into the different economic sectors and take advantage of its potential to improve productivity.

The party believes that this process must involve businesses and the public authorities. González has also pointed to the observatories that already exist in Spain as possible instruments to analyze the evolution of AI and its effects on economic activity and employment.

Technology, also as part of education

The proposal of Democracia 21 is not limited to the business sphere. González has argued that technology should once again take a central place in the Spanish education system, with the aim of preparing society for the changes introduced by artificial intelligence.

Training includes the modernization of the country among its main lines of action and proposes a more agile Administration, a reduction of bureaucratic obstacles, and an economy prepared to compete in the current technological environment.

On its official website, Democracia 21 presents 21st-century education and technological modernization as part of its proposals to transform the country.

A constitutional reform to eliminate parliamentary immunity

During the interview, the president of Democracia 21 has also defended an expedited reform of the Constitution to eliminate parliamentary immunity. González believes that this mechanism involves a privilege for public officeholders and has questioned that the same constituent parliamentarians could approve it when they themselves were benefiting from that condition.

The leader has specified that the main proposals of her party for the general elections of November 29 do not involve promoting other constitutional reforms, but rather demanding compliance with the Constitution.

Asked about the debate between monarchy and republic, she has said that it is not a priority at this time.

Miriam González’s position on amnesty and the conflict in the Middle East

The president of Democracia 21 has also commented on the amnesty approved by the Government of Pedro Sánchez. González has stated that she would not have pushed for a measure of that scope without first obtaining an electoral mandate. However, she considers that Catalan and Spanish society have shown maturity by looking at issues such as housing and education.

In relation to recognition of the State of Palestine, she has clarified that Democracia 21 does not have, for now, an official position on this matter. Personally, she has described as «unacceptable» the actions of the Israeli Government and has advocated for greater European coordination to regain influence in the region.

She has also pointed out that commercial relations with Israel present technological and cybersecurity dependencies which, in her view, must be taken into account in the context of the European Union.

Democracia 21 conditions its support on specific measures

In view of the scenario after the election of November 29, González has defended that his party will support whichever political formation is willing to approve its measures considered non-negotiable during the first 20 days of Government.

The chairwoman has presented Democracia 21 as a political project of continuity, beyond the next electoral appointment, and has asserted her intention to maintain the activity of the formation once the elections have been held.
