The Minister of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration, Elma Saiz, has announced that the Executive is working to gradually withdraw the temporary reception places set up in Ceuta following the recent migratory crisis, a measure they plan to carry out "as soon as possible".

She stated this on Monday in Barcelona during her participation in the World in Progress (WIP) forum of Prisa, where she stressed that the dismantling of these extraordinary facilities "will be a very important sign" of a return to normality in the autonomous city, months after the mass entry of migrants.

Saiz recalled that, after the outbreak of the crisis, the number of temporary reception places went from around 500 to more than 7,500, and indicated that these infrastructures will be gradually withdrawn because a significant part of the return procedures no longer needs to be completed, since many of those affected have returned to Morocco.

"There is an important number of returns to Morocco of around 13,000 people. Those are cases that no longer have to be concluded because those returns have taken place," she said, while also highlighting the role of the social entities involved in the management of these reception resources.

The Government spokesperson also defended the Executive's action in Ceuta against those who called for a response based on rejection: "The government of Spain, the response it has given from the very first moment, has given it from something as basic as legality, of course, but also humanity".
