The president of the PNV's EBB, Aitor Esteban, has warned that "what is happening with the judicial investigations for alleged corruption in the PSOE's circle is very serious," which, in his opinion, keeps the legislature "completely paralyzed." In this context, he has admitted that he does not hold out "much hope" for the explanations that the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, will offer in Congress, a appearance that, in his opinion, should take place before the 24th.
Likewise, he has criticized EH Bildu for being the only party not demanding clarifications, "as if nothing were happening," and has accused the PP of behaving in an "absolutely irresponsible manner," "slating" the PNV and, "together with the far-right, time and again, paving the way for it and creating a chasm between halves of society."
Esteban, who inaugurated the new batzoki in Lasarte-Oria (Gipuzkoa) together with the president of the GBB, Euge Arrizabalaga, has stressed that "there is an inexcusable value, which is honesty, which is the PNV's brand and will continue to be so."
In his opinion, "what is happening in Madrid is serious." He has described "a complicated situation" because, as he has emphasized, "the legislature is completely paralyzed, whether one wants it or not" and the political climate is "unbearable" due to the accumulation of pending cases in the courts. "How will one or the other end? I don't know (alluding to the PSOE and the PP), but the atmosphere is unbearable. I am not going to judge the guilt or innocence of either side," he stated.
The Basque leader has added that "all this makes a cocktail" that makes, in his view, "governance impossible and even less so the budget."
After recalling that they have repeatedly requested explanations about the latest judicial investigations affecting the socialist party and the central government, he pointed out that Sánchez has now announced his appearance in the Lower House. "ERC, BNG, Compromís have asked for it in writing, curiously, Bildu has not asked for it! It is the only party that does not ask for explanations, as if nothing were happening," he indicated.
Sánchez's explanations
Aitor Esteban has considered it "very good" that the President of the Government is going to Congress to give explanations, but has questioned the need to wait until the 24th "for that and also to mix it with the European Council meeting."
On this line, it has been asked: "Are we going to talk about Europe? About the political situation in the State? About doing a 'nahaste borraste', a mishmash, or about no explanation being given? We'll see how it ends. I, honestly, don't have much hope for many clarifications either."
Criticism of the PP
The PNV spokesperson in Congress also referred to the PP event held in Bilbao, in which its general secretary, Miguel Tellado, participated "in cahoots" with the president of the Basque Popular Party, Javier de Andrés, in an event that, as he recounted, served to "tear apart" the PNV and, in particular, himself.
"It's usual, it's what we're seeing day after day. And besides, I'm sure they'll ask for responsibility from the PNV in this situation. Does this PP, which is acting in an absolutely irresponsible manner, united with the far-right, united with Vox, time and again, paving the way for them and creating a chasm between halves of society, constantly insulting us, despising Basque self-government, ask for responsibility from the PNV? Do these people ask us for responsibility?" he questioned. In this regard, he urged them to continue coming to Euskadi to "interfere and insult the PNV," warning that, in his opinion, this attitude will have political consequences for them.
