The spokesperson of the Federal Executive of the PSOE, Montse Mínguez, who was expected to be the head of the list for Congress for Lleida, announced this Friday that she "takes a step back" in her political career after the controversy generated by the real estate properties of her partner. With this decision, she resigns from all the positions she held in the party and rules out running again as a deputy in Congress.

Mínguez has made her resignation public through a message on her account on the social network X, reported by Europa Press, in which she explains that she adopts this determination "convinced that it is the best for the collective project" to which she has dedicated her effort, her commitment, and her best energies. "With a clear conscience, head held high, and loyalty intact to my principles," she emphasized.

In that same message, she asserts that "responsibility must be above any personal consideration" in a context where "the far-right is knocking at the doors" and tries to question social advances and rights. She closes her statement by thanking "the trust, support, and affection received during all this time."

Resignation from all her positions in the PSOE

After the announcement, the PSOE confirmed that Mínguez is leaving all her organizational responsibilities, including the spokesperson role and her position in the Federal Executive as Secretary of Studies and Programs. "We thank her for her dedication and commitment in carrying out her responsibilities, as well as the passion with which she has defended socialist values in each of her public interventions," they stated from Ferraz in an official statement.

From the socialist leadership, they also value her "coherence in voting according to her principles" and highlight that this conduct has characterized an "impeccable" trajectory as a member of the PSOE. In very similar terms, the spokesperson for the Socialist Group, Patxi López, expressed in the morning that Mínguez had never supported with her vote any possible personal interests of her partner.

The now former socialist leader, who continued to be part of the Permanent Deputation, had been accused of "incoherence" by the opposition after it became known at the beginning of the week that her husband manages a real estate 'holding' with around thirty homes and has carried out evictions, as 'Artículo 14' reported.

The Catalan deputy had denounced what she considered "a personal attack" on her family and had defended the legality of her partner's business activities.

Finally, she has chosen to submit her resignation just one day after receiving the explicit support of the President of the Government and Secretary General of the PSOE, Pedro Sánchez, who stated from Brussels that "of course" he supported her.
