King Felipe VI is scheduled to travel to Ceuta and Melilla accompanied by Queen Letizia in what will be his first visit to both cities as monarch, according to sources from Zarzuela. These same sources have emphasized that, although the organization of the trip is already underway, a specific date for its realization has not yet been set.
From the Royal House, they remind that the Kings have been preparing an official trip to the two autonomous cities for some time, as they were the only territories they had not set foot in since their proclamation in June 2014. This plan was on the table before the massive entry of migrants into Ceuta at the end of July occurred, the consulted sources have pointed out.
As pointed out by the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, both Zarzuela and the Executive are working in a coordinated manner on the preparations for the visit. However, the Royal House continues to refrain from offering a specific day, beyond the indicative framework provided by Sánchez himself, who on September 3 in Congress spoke of "the coming weeks."
In another order of things, the sources have explained that the meeting held this Monday at the Palace of Zarzuela between the King and the Minister of Defense, Margarita Robles, the Chief of the Defense Staff (JEMAD), Admiral General Teodoro Esteban López Calderón, and other operational commanders, including the commander general of Ceuta, Luis Fernández Herrero, responds to Felipe VI's interest, as captain general of the Armed Forces, in staying informed about the ongoing operations, in this case those carried out in the autonomous city.
