The national leadership of the PP, headed by Alberto Núñez Feijóo, maintains that the announcement by the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, regarding the presentation of the 2027 Budget project responds to a "publicity stunt" without credibility, recalling that in the previous three fiscal years he made similar announcements without managing to register the public accounts in Congress. In the opinion of the popular party, advancing this commitment now seeks to "cover up" the "mafia" linked to the so-called 'Leire case'.

During his speech at the 41st Meeting of the Cercle d'Economia in Barcelona, the head of the Executive announced that this week the order for the preparation of the 2027 PGE will be published in the Official State Gazette (BOE), which confirms that the Government definitively renounces presenting the Budgets corresponding to this year.

In that economic forum, Sánchez defended that these new accounts will include the greatest spending effort in housing in history and linked them to the reform of regional financing that he intends to push forward in 2024. Furthermore, he called for an "effort of generosity, responsibility, and commitment from parliamentary forces, including Catalan independentists and nationalists" to be able to move them forward.

Criticism from Génova to Sánchez's announcement

Sources close to Feijóo have emphasized to Europa Press that "it is a publicity stunt. But if Sánchez doesn't have votes to approve a decree, how is he going to have votes to approve the Budgets!". In the PP leadership, they emphasize that the announcement coincides with the dissemination of the summary of the 'Leire case', where, according to their interpretation, it is confirmed that within the PSOE they acted as "a total mafia", according to the same sources.

From the 'Génova' headquarters, they have also focused on Sánchez's repeated promises regarding housing, emphasizing that, in their opinion, none have materialized. "It is a government rotten on all sides," they state at the popular party's headquarters, insisting that the Executive uses the Budgets as a tool for political propaganda.

PP economic leaders accuse Sánchez of diverting attention

The deputy secretary of Economy of the PP, Alberto Nadal, recalled that Sánchez made similar announcements "in 2023, 2024, and 2025, with identical consequences". "There have been no General State Budgets throughout the legislature because he has not had a majority to approve them. Why should we believe him this time?", he asked in a message on 'X' collected by Europa Press, emphasizing the government's lack of parliamentary support.

In the same vein, the deputy secretary of Finance of the PP, Juan Bravo, pointed out that "after three years of failing to comply with the obligation to present Budgets", Sánchez now assures that next year he will do so and that "it is the good one, the real one". In his opinion, "what is worrying is that he says he will do something constitutionally obligatory (he will not do it) only to try to divert and cover up his scandals", he also denounced on 'X'.

Accusations of corruption and political use of the Budgets

The deputy spokesperson for the Popular Group in Congress, Rafael Hernando, was more forceful, lashing out at the head of the Executive by stating that for "the umpteenth time the head of the Sanchista Mafia announces that he is going to present Budgets" when, according to him, he has spent three years "trampling on the Constitution". In his opinion, "now he announces their processing to try to cover up the corruption cases", directly linking the budgetary calendar with the investigations opened around the 'Leire case'.
