The PSOE Aragón general secretary, Pilar Alegría, together with the socialist candidates for the Congress for Zaragoza, Fernando Beltrán and Marta Gracia, and for the Senate, Miguel Dalmau, made this Saturday in Quinto an appeal for participation ahead of the elections on 29 November. Their aim is to achieve a broad and progressive majority that will make it possible to keep moving forward on rights, well-being and freedoms, and "that the rights of the majority prevail over the privileges".
Before party members and supporters from across the county, they called for "socialist pride and the strength of the people" to decide between the two country models that they consider to be in dispute. "Either that model of cuts, of setbacks, and of going back 50 years, or choosing a model in which the rights of the majority prevail over the privileges of a minority," Alegría emphasized.
The socialist leader stressed that on 29N not only the continuity of the social policies promoted by the Government of Pedro Sánchez is at stake, but also the model of coexistence that is wanted for the next generations. Confronted with a right that she accused of making "insult, confrontation and hate its only political project", she defended a society based on respect, pluralism and democratic coexistence.
In her speech, Alegría pointed out that "politics are facts, they are realities. It is betting on raising the interprofessional minimum wage, it is betting on increasing pensions in line with the cost of living", and she highlighted the importance of redistributive taxation and consolidating the rights already won. "But politics are also emotions. It is also deciding and choosing what model of society and country we want to build," she added.
Along these lines, she appealed to hope as the engine of socialist mobilization and asked to transform "that illusion, those desires, that emotion, that hope" into votes next 29 November, with the aim of achieving a sufficient majority and a more progressive Parliament that will make it easier to move forward more quickly on reforms and social achievements.
Alegría has highlighted the measures of the Government of Pedro Sánchez to improve the living conditions of citizens, such as the increase in the interprofessional minimum wage and the recovery of the revaluation of pensions in line with the CPI. It has also emphasized the strengthening of the Social Security Reserve Fund to ensure the pensions of future generations.
For their part, Fernando Beltrán, Marta Gracia and Miguel Dalmau have backed this project of progress and have highlighted the role of the PSOE in job creation, the defense of the welfare state, equality and democratic memory.
The act of Quinto has also served to underscore socialist pride and recognize the commitment of the party membership in the region, whose participation they consider key to mobilize citizens ahead of 29N.
Alegría has stressed that high turnout will be decisive in achieving a majority that will allow them to keep governing and meeting the needs of the population. "We want to win them in order to keep governing, and only and exclusively to improve the life of ordinary people, the people who have difficulties, the people who have it worst," it concluded.
