The president of the Partido Popular in the Region of Murcia, Fernando López Miras, this Saturday went on the attack against the head of the central Executive by saying that "Pedro Sánchez has turned housing into a luxury item for young people, while socialists in the Region have gotten rich off evictions and vulture funds." His remarks were made before speaking at a rally in La Unión, where he was accompanied by the lead candidate for the Senate from the Region of Murcia, Francisco Bernabé, and the mayor of the municipality, Joaquín Zapata.

López Miras focused on the rental market situation and denounced that "20 percent of rental homes have disappeared in the Region after the latest decrees from Sánchez's Government." In his view, the decisions of the central Executive have worsened access to housing for young people and families.

The Popular leader stated that the policies driven by Sánchez's Government "have put housing at the top of the concerns of Spaniards when before it was at 16," something he attributes to "a Housing Law that he introduced with Bildu, which has resulted in there being fewer homes and more expensive ones, and for squatters to have more rights than owners."

In contrast, he defended the performance of the regional Executive against the strategy of the central Government. "After assuring that housing was a priority for them, Sánchez has done the exact opposite of what was necessary for there to be housing," López Miras said, who counterposed those measures with those of the regional Government, "the exact opposite of what, for example, the Government of the Region of Murcia has done, with measures such as the Young Guarantee for the first home, 16 million euros in rental aid, or the Decree of Affordable Housing to build 25,000 homes in five years in the Region."

The president of the PPRM warned of what, in his opinion, is at stake in the upcoming election. "On 29N we have a lot to lose," he emphasized, while attributing the "deterioration of public services and infrastructure, and loss of families' purchasing power in the face of rising prices of basic products, such as food, energy, or fuels" to "eight years of neglect and corruption."

López Miras has insisted that "these have been eight years of neglect of Spaniards, especially the most vulnerable: they do not deserve to keep governing." In this line, he has considered that "resignations no longer matter: on 29N, Spaniards have to judge Pedro Sánchez and his ministers."

Bernabé contrasts two models of president

For his part, Francisco Bernabé has stressed that "Spaniards have to consider what kind of President of the Government they want." In his view, "they have to choose between the Pedro Sánchez model, that of a lying, corrupt, traitorous and incompetent president, or the model of Alberto Núñez Feijóo, a worthy, honest, serious, decent and good manager president."

Bernabé has defended that "our commitment is clear: we have to support the Partido Popular and Alberto Núñez Feijóo," presenting the popular leader as an alternative to the current President of the Government.

Zapata highlights what's at stake for La Unión

The mayor of La Unión, Joaquín Zapata, has underlined that "Spain is finally going to have general elections, at a moment when change is more necessary than ever." He has emphasized that "these are very important elections for Spain, but also for La Unión, since we are also at stake with issues as important as the renewal of the Bahía de Portmán, improving security, or local funding."
