King Felipe VI has conveyed "the condolences, support and affection" of the Royal Household at a moment "so hard and so difficult" after the serious railway accident recorded on Wednesday morning in Urda (Toledo).

The Head of State was in the morning in Bétera (Valencia), where he attended the "GRIFO 2026" exercise of the Valencia NBC Defense Regiment no. 1, in the maneuver field of the Jaime I Military Base.

During his stay at the base, the monarch was informed of "the news of the terrible AVE accident near Toledo", as he himself indicated before the media.

"The first thing is to lament the terrible accident with apparently the high number of fatalities and many injured. I know that they are in the full process of attending to the emergency and they are recovering and analyzing all the circumstances", he pointed out.

The King has reiterated that "the first thing is to lament that terrible misfortune, to convey to the families our condolences, our sadness, our support and our affection in a moment so hard and so difficult".

Felipe VI has detailed that he has already held a conversation with the president of Castilla-La Mancha, Emiliano García-Page, and that he remains awaiting returning "so as to be able to continue following the emergency and learn more details of what has happened".

After the scope of the accident became known, the schedule planned at the Bétera barracks has been reduced to facilitate that the King can return as quickly as possible.

Finally, the monarch has wanted to address "a few words of encouragement, of support and recognition to all the emergency services that are attending to the situation".

He has underscored that in the operation are involved personnel "from all the organizations and origins" and also from the Armed Forces, with the UME. "There are many people attending to the emergency and recognition to them too", he concluded.
