The deputy general secretary of the PSOE of Loja, Carmen Ortiz, has decided to resign from being number two on the PSOE list for the Senate for Granada in order to allow the entry of a candidate from Frente Amplio, in compliance with the state agreement reached between both forces for the upcoming general elections.

Ortiz explains that she makes this decision with the "conviction" that joining efforts and opening space for Frente Amplio on the Senate lists "strengthens everyone" while division "only benefits those who want to hinder social progress," according to what she has stated on her Facebook profile, consulted by Europa Press.

The socialist leader also maintains that the Upper House must return to being a "useful tool for citizens" and not an institution that "puts sticks in the wheels," which is what, in her view, the absolute majority of the PP has meant in recent years.

In Andalusia, the agreement stipulates that the PSOE-A heads the candidacies with which it will run for the Senate in the eight Andalusian provinces, although ceding the second position on those lists to Frente Amplio, with the exception of Seville and Huelva.

In the province of Granada, the head of the Senate list is the general secretary of the PSOE of Granada, Pedro Fernández, who this week has left his position as the Government delegate in Andalusia to be able to run in these elections.

As number three is the one who until these days has been the deputy delegate of the Government in Granada, José Antonio Montilla, current coordinating secretary of the Development of the Statute of Autonomy, Democratic Quality, and Agenda 2030 of PSOE-A.

The organizations that are part of Frente Amplio are holding talks to finalize the name of the person who will occupy the number two position on the candidacy for the Granada constituency, according to sources familiar with negotiations that are being carried out at the state level, as indicated to Europa Press.

The expectation is that the decision will be made public in the coming hours and it is considered likely that the place left by the socialist representative will ultimately be for a person proposed by IU.
