The spokesperson of the Socialist Parliamentary Group in the Assembly of Extremadura, Isabel Gil Rosiña, has informed that the PSOE has requested the appearance of the director general of Digital Health with the aim that he "give parliamentary explanations" about the recent cyberattack that has affected the Extremadura Health Service (SES).
In a press release, the socialists have emphasized that what happened has "special seriousness," since it "affects the information systems and the data processing of SES users, including especially sensitive information such as citizens' medical records".
Gil Rosiña sees it as "necessary" for the Junta to give public explanations and "clear up the doubts" that arose after learning of the attack through various reports in the media.
In this line, the PSOE spokesperson has asked why the regional Executive did not report what happened "until the detention of the alleged responsible for the cyberattack took place and the news became public through the media".
Likewise, the socialists have focused on the security of the Jara computer system. According to what has been indicated, based on the known data, the access route of the cyberattack would have been the online health center service and the medical appointment request system.
For this reason, the PSOE wants to clarify whether the Jara system is today "exposed to any real risk" and whether the Junta has put into place "additional measures" to those already existing to reinforce the protection of the personal and clinical data of SES users.
Gil Rosiña has underlined that the population "needs to know" exactly what has happened and what guarantees it has in relation to the security of its health information.
Consequently, the Socialist Parliamentary Group understands that there are "sufficient reasons" for the director general of Digital Health to appear before the Assembly of Extremadura and detail what the current situation is and what actions the Junta is carrying out after the cyberattack.
