The PSOE's deputy spokesperson, Enma López, has criticized this Saturday a "differentiated treatment" towards her party for holding "different ideas" and has called for avoiding "politicizing justice," recalling that "political parties are won in the ballot boxes."
López launched this message during the 27th Congress of Socialist Youth, where she highlighted the PSOE's attitude towards the judicial investigations opened in recent weeks. Compared to what, in her opinion, the PP did, she defended that the Socialist Party "collaborates with justice" and "does not destroy evidence."
"Neither can justice be politicized, nor should politics be judicialized. Because in politics, political parties are won in the ballot boxes and in Parliament. We are won through democracy," reiterated the socialist leader, who once again appealed to the presumption of innocence of former Prime Minister José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, recently indicted.
Defense of the party and criticism of the opposition
In her speech, the PSOE's deputy spokesperson also alluded to a "very, very small minority" that, as she emphasized, does not reflect the party as a whole, and censured the opposition for celebrating alleged corruption cases affecting socialists.
"Any scandal is bad news for this country," stated López, also rejecting gloating over corruption episodes like Gürtel, Púnica, or Kitchen, all linked to the PP. "Zero joy, because that is bad news for the country," she added.
In this context, the socialist leader asked the militants not to settle for what she considers "differentiated treatment": "Let us not resign ourselves to leaks, let us not resign ourselves to differentiated treatment, let us not resign ourselves to injustices, let us not resign ourselves to being treated differently simply for having different ideas."
In the final part of her speech, López vindicated the progress promoted by the PSOE and the validity of the presumption of innocence, underlining that "the best thing that has happened to this country bears the seal and signature of the Spanish Socialist Workers' Party."
Aránzazu Figueroa takes over leadership of Socialist Youth
The 27th Congress also served for Socialist Youth to designate Aránzazu Figueroa as the new general secretary, succeeding Víctor Camino, who had held the position since 2021.
Among its functions will be to integrate into the weekly meetings of the Federal Executive of the PSOE, chaired by the general secretary Pedro Sánchez, which are held every Monday at the party headquarters, on Madrid's Ferraz street.
