The Reformist Police Union (SRP) has shown its "most absolute rejection" of the ruling issued by Judge Juan Carlos Peinado, in which he "questions the integrity" of the agents responsible for the security of Begoña Gómez, wife of the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez. The union organization demands that this resolution "be eliminated or rectified by those who have decision-making power in the Administration of Justice".
Through a statement, the SRP emphasizes that the police officers in question "belong to specialized units that act under strict protocols, permanent supervision, and technical criteria that guarantee the security of high-ranking State officials," and maintains that questioning their professionalism "constitutes an unjustified attack on those who perform an essential task for the normal functioning of democratic institutions."
In the ruling, of 84 pages and dated this Saturday, the magistrate states that "there is no doubt" that the agents accompanying Gómez may, "either on their own initiative or following orders from their hierarchical superiors," collaborate "in the action or actions carried out to facilitate that escape, making it impossible for the accused to be available to justice."
The union also recalls that "illegal orders were abolished in Spain since 1995" and that members of the force "are not a bargaining chip" nor "do they owe allegiance to any party's policies," but rather carry out their work "with neutrality, rigor, and absolute adherence to the law."
As the SRP warns, "unfounded accusations harm not only the affected officials but also the image and credibility of the National Police Corps itself," and therefore demands that "any assessment of their actions be based on verified facts, not on interpretations that may generate social distrust or institutional deterioration."
The statement concludes by urging that the agents protecting Gómez not be questioned and emphasizes that the SRP "will continue to defend the professional dignity of all agents and ensure that their work is recognized with the seriousness and respect it deserves."
