The judicial investigation into the death of Isak Andic, founder of Mango, faces a new phase of witness statements. Judge Raquel Nieto has summoned more than three dozen people to appear in the Court of Instruction number 5 of Martorell, in a session that, according to the schedule published by Crónica Global, is due to begin on Tuesday, November 10, and run through November and December.

The agenda has undergone several changes due to incompatibilities and postponements. In fact, some of the appearances initially scheduled for the end of October and November 9 have been moved to later dates. In addition, El País has published this Friday that the Prosecutor’s Office has requested the statement of Iñaki Ortega, head of communications for the Andic family, for a report on the media strategy designed after the opening of the case.

The testimonies must provide information on different aspects of the investigation: from the entrepreneur’s latest wishes and the management of his estate to the circumstances of the fatal fall he suffered on December 14, 2024 during an excursion in Montserrat together with his son Jonathan, who is being investigated for an alleged homicide.

The executives and executors of the estate

One of the most relevant groups of witnesses is formed by the three executors appointed by Isak Andic in his last will: Toni Ruiz, chief executive officer of Mango; Daniel López, an executive of the company, and José Creuheras, president of Grupo Planeta.

The three must provide information about the entrepreneur’s latest wishes, the family relationship, and the plan to create a foundation of a social nature. Andic had instructed this entity to group and expand philanthropic initiatives that it already carried out through Mango.

The executors’ statement may help clarify what role their three children were intended to have in that foundation and how the distribution of the estate was structured. These are relevant issues because Jonathan Andic’s defense intends to challenge that there was a property-related conflict that could constitute an economic motive.

Also cited is Jordi Alex Moreno Sanchis, head of cybersecurity at Mango. His appearance is part of the proceedings related to the family’s professional and digital environment.

The notary and the professionals who knew the estate

The investigation also includes people who took part in the estate planning of Mango’s founder. Among them is Ariel Sultan Benguigui, the notary who knew the annual update system of Andic’s wills.

His testimony should help clarify how the entrepreneur’s final wishes were drafted and amended and what provisions the last document contained, in which the estate was divided equally among his three children.

On the defense side, the statements of the lawyer Miquel Roca i Junyent and his son Joan Roca are also planned. Both took part in the project to establish the foundation that the businessman wanted to promote. The defense considers that their testimonies can provide information about the scope of the initiative and about whether it affected the inheritance or not.

To this group are added Raquel Delgado, financial and administrative director of the family asset company Punto Na, and Germán Castejón, an adviser who participated in planning the management of the family’s assets and companies.

The agents and the emergency teams

The Public Prosecutor’s Office has also requested the appearance of several agents of the Mossos d'Esquadra who took part in the investigation. Among them is the sergeant who led the investigation and two members of the Mountain Unit who prepared an expert report about the site of the fall.

The latter stated that they could not conclude that third parties had intervened in the accident. Their statements will make it possible to delve further into the police actions and the technical elements analyzed during the investigation.

Also called to testify are professionals from the Medical Emergency System (SEM) who attended by telephone to Jonathan Andic after he alerted about his father’s fall, as well as firefighters who took part in the rescue operation and a municipal agent from Collbató.

The new summons of the family’s communications officer

One of the most recent developments is the summons of Iñaki Ortega, communications officer for the Andic family. As El País reported on November 6, the Public Prosecutor’s Office has requested his statement in connection with a report found by the Mossos on the electronic devices seized from Jonathan Andic.

The document included a strategy for managing communication about the case and mitigating its reputational impact. It included talking points to unify the narrative, references to journalists, and the possibility of making advertising investments.

The Public Prosecutor’s Office wants to clarify the details of that plan and Ortega’s involvement in its development. The head of communications himself has sent the content of his future statement as a witness.

A schedule subject to changes

The new round comes after several postponements. The schedule disseminated by Crónica Global includes sessions on November 10, 11, 12, 13, 16 and 23, in addition to December 14, 15 and 16. However, the changes affect some of the appearances and the schedule has not yet been definitively closed, according to the information published by El País.

Among the testimonies whose dates have also changed are those of detective Francisco Marco and the lawyer Miquel Roca, in addition to other professionals linked to the family’s circle.

The case investigates the death of Isak Andic, who died after plunging down a ravine during an excursion in Montserrat in December 2024. His son Jonathan remains under investigation for an alleged homicide, although he is free with precautionary measures. The new batch of statements seeks to expand the information available about the circumstances of the death and the different elements that form part of the investigation.
