A 60-year-old sailor had to be evacuated in the last few hours from the fishing boat 'Playa Malvín', of Uruguayan flag but with Galician capital, when the vessel was about 140 nautical miles from the coast of Uruguay.

According to information released by local media, the rescue operation was carried out by the National Navy of Uruguay using a medicalized helicopter, which had the support of an airplane, amidst strong waves and gusts of wind that complicated the maneuver. Furthermore, the great distance to the fishing boat posed an added challenge, as the helicopter operated "at the limit of its range".

After the rescue, the aircraft landed in the department of Maldonado with the sick crew member on board, where the man was transferred and admitted to a hospital.
