The three sailors traveling aboard the longliner "Corvo" had to be assisted after the ship caught fire near Estaca de Bares.

As reported by Salvamento Marítimo, the Fisterre Coordination Center received the alert around 22:04 hours this Monday, when the fishing vessel was sailing about eight miles northeast of Estaca de Bares.

In response to the emergency, the Pesca II helicopter —from Gardacostas de Galicia—, the Salvamar Alioth, and the ship "María Pita" from Salvamento Marítimo were activated.

Due to the fire, the crew abandoned the vessel and took refuge in a lifeboat, from where they were picked up, around 22:35 hours, by the fishing vessel "Río Xunco." Later, they were transported by helicopter to Celeiro, where an ambulance was waiting for their arrival.

Meanwhile, the ship "María Pita" tried to extinguish the fire during the early morning, although the longliner ended up sinking around 05:40 hours. Despite this, the ocean-going tug remains in the area working on the recovery of the wreckage.
