The San Isidro Micas Foundation has organized the fourth training stay of the Cultiva Program in Cantabria, with the objective of reinforcing the exchange of experiences among young professionals in the agricultural sector through the "Abeja Negra" farm, dedicated to beekeeping and the conservation of the native black bee.

This Cantabrian farm will host a new stay from July 6 to 10, aimed at young beekeepers, with the intention of demonstrating that "the conservation of natural resources and economic profitability can advance jointly" within a viable business model in the rural environment.

The host farm has consolidated itself as a benchmark thanks to its commitment to sustainable beekeeping focused on the preservation of the black bee, a native breed adapted to the environmental conditions of the north of the Iberian Peninsula. To this end, it combines beekeeping production with the selection and breeding of queens and the genetic improvement of local populations.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food has highlighted the work of this farm by sending an audiovisual production team to its facilities, as its selection as a reference space "demonstrates its role as an example of good practices in sustainable beekeeping, conservation of the native black bee, and knowledge transfer among professionals in the sector".

The stay will be directed by Mattia Ferramosca, a partner of the farm, who will share with attendees "his experience in the technical, economic, and environmental management of a specialized farm, with the training complemented by a technical visit to the Colmenares de Vendejo in Cabezón de Liébana to learn about 'the management of apiaries in mountain areas and the particularities of honey production linked to this territory'."
