The President of the United States, Donald Trump, has communicated a tariff exemption for 90 days for a part of the foreign purchases of ground beef, with a cap of 300,000 tons, with the intention of lowering its cost for consumers.
"During the next 90 days, the United States will allow the importation of up to 300,000 metric tons of ground beef duty-free outside the quota," stated the occupant of the White House in a message posted on social media.
In parallel, Trump has blamed his predecessor in the Presidency, Joe Biden, for allowing a "staggering" increase in the price of meat and a decline in the number of cattle in the country.
Thus, the leader has committed to boosting the recovery of the livestock census and to supporting workers in the sector, while indicating that meat will begin to be marketed with a 25% discount compared to current market rates.
"This agreement will reduce prices for Americans and, at the same time, allow our large American cattle population to grow again," he concluded.
