Asturian Rural Union (URA) has disseminated this Thursday a statement in which it urges the different professional organizations to unite in the face of the "serious situation" that the Asturian countryside is going through and opens the door to calling for mobilizations. The agricultural entity lists as main factors of tension the drought, the continued increase in production costs, the collapse of the prices that farmers receive, and the "delays and blockages" that they attribute to the Ministry of Rural Affairs.
From URA they emphasize that their call does not imply an immediate call for protests, but a warning to the entire sector to jointly discuss the next steps. "We want to make it clear that we are not announcing a specific mobilization at this moment. What we are doing is proposing this possibility to the entire sector for it to be evaluated together. We believe that the time has come to talk among ourselves, seek points of agreement, and study what actions we can carry out if the Administration maintains its current attitude," they have explained from URA.
In the same text, the organization insists that the priority is to open an effective negotiation channel with the Principality. "We want dialogue, we want answers, and we want measures. But we also want to make it clear that the sector cannot continue to wait indefinitely," they add, while demanding an immediate reaction from the regional Administration.
URA warns that if no progress is made in a short period, the sector could take action. The organization puts on the table the possibility of initiating mobilizations in a short period of time "if the Administration continues without responding, without adopting measures, and, especially, without sitting down to talk with the sector."
