The president of the Andalusian Parliament, Ana Mestre (PP-A), has summoned the spokespersons of the groups in the Chamber for this Monday, August 31, in a series of meetings that mark the start of the new political course. These meetings are held just a month after her election as the highest authority of the Parliament, agreed upon on July 23 after the resignation of Jesús Aguirre.
According to the parliamentary agenda for this Monday, the round of contacts will begin at 10:00 hours and will take place in the Protocol Hall of the Andalusian Parliament. However, sources from Vox specified this Sunday that the spokesperson for their group, Javier Cortés, will not be able to attend this meeting due to scheduling issues, and that it will finally be on Thursday, September 3, when he holds his meeting with the president of the Chamber.
The Plenary of the Parliament elected Ana Mestre as the new president on July 23, within the framework of the government agreement reached in July between PP-A and Vox. This pact stipulated that the Vox formation would take over the first vice-presidency of the Board, a responsibility that until then was held by the now president of the Parliament.
To make that commitment effective, Jesús Aguirre submitted his resignation from the position of president of the Parliament -- for which he had been re-elected in June -- and also left his seat as a regional deputy for Córdoba, in order to join the Senate as a senator by regional designation.
The departure of Jesús Aguirre was covered by the person who was serving at that moment as the first vice president, Ana Mestre, while the Vox deputy for Seville, Cristina Peláez, was appointed in the same Plenary on July 23 to occupy the position left vacant by the 'popular' parliamentarian as 'number two' of the Board of the Chamber.
In this scenario of change in the Presidency and after the halt of ordinary activity typical of the month of August, Ana Mestre has summoned the spokespersons of the groups -- PP-A, PSOE-A, Vox, Adelante Andalucía, and Por Andalucía -- to this round of meetings to start the political course.
The following day, Tuesday, September 1, the constitution of the majority of the commissions with which the Andalusian Parliament will operate during the XIII legislature is scheduled, which began last June after the regional elections held on May 17.
