Chunta Aragonesista has assessed the resignation of Marta Tejero as managing director of the Aragonese Institute of Social Services (IASS) as "a new problem for the management of social policies in Aragon" and has demanded from the regional government "immediate explanations about all the circumstances surrounding this departure, how it will affect the management and planning of this public body and, above all, when and who will take over the position."
The deputy Mary Carmen Bozal has emphasized that "we are talking about a key body to guarantee rights and provide essential services to the citizens, and we cannot assume as normal that changes occur in its highest responsibility without knowing all the reasons and without clear information about the transition." She has reminded that the IASS takes on a central part of social policy in Aragon and is responsible for the management of benefits, centers, services, and social programs.
From CHA, they have warned that "this new resignation generates uncertainty precisely in an area that needs stability, planning, and management capacity."
The Aragonese Institute of Social Services coordinates and organizes essential resources such as care for dependency and disability, early attention, child and adolescent protection, family fostering, and various devices aimed at the elderly, so, in the opinion of the Aragonese formation, "the lack of stability in its direction generates concern about the planning and functioning of policies that directly affect thousands of Aragonese people."
In coherence with this analysis, CHA has pointed out that the resignation of the head of the IASS "evidences a deep internal discontent and fundamental discrepancies, as recently denounced by unions such as CCOO, that affect the way public management is understood." "The commitment to social issues and to people must always come before any other consideration," they have added.
Criticism of the leadership of the Government of Aragon
The formation has also pointed to the highest official of the regional executive, stating that it is President Jorge Azcón "who cannot continue to let the vice president, Alejandro Nolasco, 'do as he pleases' and look the other way in situations like this. His lack of leadership and assumption of responsibilities opens a new gap in a government increasingly marked by discrepancies and instability."
With this context, CHA has announced that it will register a battery of initiatives in the Cortes of Aragón with the aim of clarifying the reasons that led Marta Tejero to formalize her resignation, to know the assessment that the Government of Aragón makes of what happened and, in particular, to know when it plans to appoint the person who will replace the current managing director.
Bozal has concluded that "we want to know what is happening in such an important organization for the public system of social services and we demand that the Government provide certainties, guarantee the continuity of public services and explain when the change will take place."
