The Minister of Economy and Finance of the Generalitat, Alícia Romero, has underlined that the approval this Thursday of the Generalitat Budgets for 2026 is good news "because Catalonia needs stability, needs certainties and needs tools to continue transforming and to continue advancing", and has expressed her gratitude to ERC and Comuns for their capacity for agreement.
In her speech during the final debate on the accounts in the Parliament, she acknowledged the partners for having prioritized common ground and thanked them "for the work, for the demands, and for the commitment", a recognition that she extended to CC.OO., UGT, Pimec, Foment, and the Taula del Tercer Sector Social.
Romero reviewed the main figures for spending and investment in the Budgets, which she described as record-breaking, and defended that the increase in resources responds to the good performance of the economy. At the same time, she focused on the reinforcement of the allocations for health, education, and social services in the new accounts: "Of every 4 euros, 3, that is, 75% of the budget, goes to reinforcing our welfare state".
Nevertheless, she acknowledged that, although resources have grown in recent years, they remain insufficient: "We have said it many times", she pointed out, before noting that this situation could improve if Congress gives the green light to the new regional financing model, which would allow for the incorporation of 4.7 billion euros annually into the Generalitat's coffers.
"Resources that we hope will arrive, that we will all rise to the occasion, because beyond asking, complaining, and making diagnoses, the important thing is to find answers and solutions", she stated, in a veiled reference to Junts, whose position in the vote could be decisive for the new model to prosper.
