The deputy of Compromís integrated into the parliamentary group of Sumar in Congress, Alberto Ibáñez, has registered in the Lower House a series of questions directed to the Ministry of the Interior about the actions carried out against the "impunity" with which "fascist" squads operate in different parts of València, among them the self-styled 'Angels of the Night', who "try to pass themselves off as groups of neighbors that monitor possible situations of insecurity in their neighborhoods".
In those initiatives and in a message published on his profile on the social network X, Ibáñez denounces that the "outsourcing of public security to ultra private entities is a contempt for the Police" and laments that the "collusion of a large part of the Police allowing fascist squads to act is an attack on democracy".
The parliamentarian refers to the route taken in the early hours of Saturday to Sunday by several "patrols" of the so-called 'Angels of the Night' along the Malva-rosa beach in València, an action disseminated by España 2000 on their social networks.
In that publication, the collective justifies its presence "in light of the growing concern about insecurity in the area, especially due to the presence of groups of young people of Maghreb origin who were concentrated in different areas of the promenade. Our presence helped to deter possible conflict situations and to reinforce the sense of security among neighbors and visitors." Additionally, they distributed leaflets and announced new outings in "other neighborhoods" of Valencia.
In light of these events, Ibáñez criticizes the "permissiveness of both the Police of María Jose Catalá --mayor of València-- and that of Pilar Bernabé --government delegate-- as "intolerable", "an attack on democracy" and a "lack of respect for the State Security Forces and Corps". From the Government Subdelegation, they indicate that three members of the group have been identified.
"Perfectly orchestrated" squads and use of uniforms
In the battery of questions sent to the Executive, the deputy refers to the deployment of these "fascist squads" whose members "are dressed in dark clothing and black vests with reflective strips, simulating official uniforms".
"Although they try to pass themselves off as groups of neighbors who monitor possible insecurity situations in their neighborhoods, in reality, they are perfectly orchestrated fascist groups that are dedicated to intimidating immigrant people, mainly Arabs, with the aim of stirring up the rumor of increasing insecurity in front of the gaze of residents and passersby," it states.
In this sense, it warns that the presence of these "small groups fulfills a significant function in questioning the model of justice and use of force of a democratic State." "With these initiatives, it is intended to generate a model of imparting a supposed justice parallel to the democratic one and without the democratic control that can be exercised over the institutions, as well as to question the actions of the institutions in maintaining social peace," it reproaches.
For Ibáñez, "it is surprising the impunity with which they deploy without encountering the insight and firmness with which we see the FCSE act against demonstrators for education or unionists, as their very existence questions the good police work," which "directly challenges the Ministry of Interior and the various delegations and sub-delegations of the Government, as it depends on them that compliance with the law is equal, as well as the necessary democratization of the institutions in their actions."
Furthermore, it recalls that the use of clothing that "can mislead with those of the FCSE is already classified as a serious infringement in article 36.14 of the Organic Law on Citizen Security."
Therefore, the deputy asks what measures the Ministry of Interior is adopting "to prevent these violent small groups"; whether any sanctioning file has been initiated for the mentioned serious infringement and "how the tolerance or collusion of the FCSE with these small groups is explained when these same groups imply questioning the FCSE themselves," among other issues.
Criticism from Compromís in the Valencia City Council
At the same time, the councilor of Compromís in the Valencia City Council, Ferran Puchades, has denounced that the "irruption of these extreme right tiktokers pretending to monitor the streets of Valencia, beyond being very concerning, evidences a real situation: the widespread perception of how security has degraded in the city in the last three years."
"The consensus on this deterioration since Catalá has been governing alongside Vox, after the improvement experienced during the eight years of government of Joan Ribó and Compromís, is such that even marginal far-right groups are taking to the streets to denounce and, allegedly, to supplement the inefficiency of their far-right municipal government also in citizen security," he criticized in a statement.
In his opinion, "València does not deserve such a deficient management nor for these scoundrels to do as they please. València wants and deserves to regain tranquility, something that will be achieved when the left returns to govern the city and València recovers the lost time due to PP and Vox during this mandate."
