The CD Tenerife footballer Maikel Mesa has been sentenced this Wednesday, after a trial held in La Laguna, to a penalty of eight months in prison and a fine of 1,200 euros as a fine for the assault on a man that occurred in broad daylight on Sunday night.
According to the information office of the Superior Court of Justice of the Canary Islands (TSJC), Mesa is specifically given a sentence of eight months in jail and a fine of two months, at a rate of ten euros per day, for a crime of assault, in addition to another fine of two months for a minor offense of injury.
The player was arrested by the National Police along with two other people who were with him at the time of the events, which, according to the Local Police of La Laguna, took place around 10:30 p.m. last Sunday in the vicinity of the car park located on Manuel de Osuna street.
When the municipal agents arrived at the scene after being alerted to a possible assault, a contingent of the National Police was already there assisting the victim, who reported that while walking down Herradores street he was insulted and assaulted by three men, who stole his mobile phone -- he provided the agents with a physical description and the license plate of the vehicle in which they left the scene --.
Subsequently, the man went to a health center to be treated for his injuries and then filed the corresponding complaint. After the investigations carried out by the Local Police, the alleged aggressors were identified and the stolen mobile phone was recovered.
