The General Council of the Judiciary (CGPJ) has requested the Ministry of the Presidency, Justice and Relations with the Courts to convene as soon as possible the Joint Commission between both institutions in order to "finalize" the text of the protocol of support and reinforcement measures for the judicial bodies, with the aim of "avoiding delays" in "urgent" situations like those recorded in Ceuta.
According to the governing body of the judges in an informative note, "The ratification of the protocol, which was signed in 2019, would allow for the acceleration of the adoption of these measures and avoid delays in their application, especially in those cases that are urgent like the one affecting the autonomous city of Ceuta," following the extraordinary meeting held this Tuesday by the Permanent Commission to analyze the situation of the Ceuta courts as a result of the migration crisis.
In that same session, the Permanent Commission has been informed of the reinforcement measures agreed upon by the High Court of Justice of Andalusia, Ceuta and Melilla for the Court of First Instance of Ceuta, among which is a schedule of double shifts of judges on duty and an offer of service commission aimed at reinforcing the judicial positions of instruction, duty and violence against women, among other functions.
This reinforcement plan, which the CGPJ announced yesterday afternoon, Monday, was activated after the sending of a letter from the Secretary of State for Justice, Manuel Olmedo, to the Secretary General of the governing body of the judges, Miguel Hernández, in which the Executive urged the Judiciary to process urgently the request for reinforcement for the courts of the autonomous city.
The Permanent Commission has also formally acknowledged the communication sent by the Secretary of State for Justice to the Secretary General of the CGPJ, incorporating it into the file related to the situation of the judicial bodies of Ceuta.
Likewise, the governing body of the judges has reported that the service commission planned for the reinforcement of positions 1 to 6 of the civil and instruction section of the Court of First Instance of Ceuta currently has four applications submitted.
