The magistrate of the Criminal Court No. 11 of Barcelona has granted amnesty to the five 'síndics' of 1-O, the group of experts appointed by the Parliament of Catalonia to ensure the guarantees of the independence referendum held on October 1, 2017. The affected are lawyer Marc Marsal, professor Jordi Matas, lawyer Marta Alsina, former ERC councilor Tània Verge, and the current deputy of Junts in Congress, Josep Pagés, according to the resolution made public this Tuesday.
In her ruling, the judge declares the "extinction of the criminal responsibility of the accused" regarding all the crimes attributed to them and agrees to the free dismissal and the definitive filing of the proceedings against the members of the Electoral Syndicate of Catalonia, a decision reported by 'El Nacional' and later confirmed by Europa Press.
The 'síndics' had already been tried in 2021 by the same Criminal Court 11 of Barcelona, at a time when none of them had parliamentary immunity, and were acquitted of the crimes of disobedience and usurpation of public functions that were charged against them. However, the Barcelona Court annulled that acquittal and ordered a retrial, responding to the request of the Prosecutor's Office, which sought sentences of up to 2 years and 9 months in prison for each of them.
