The mayor of Pamplona, Joseba Asiron (EH Bildu), has announced that the municipal government team will not take part in the demonstration called for this Wednesday in support of the autonomous city of Ceuta, following the massive entry of migrants from Morocco. The mayor has condemned the "clearly partisan use" of this call which, in his opinion, responds to a "strategy of the Spanish right" to "weaken" the central Government.
In statements to the media, Asiron has emphasized that what is happening in Ceuta constitutes a "migration crisis" and "a problem that transcends the borders of the municipal." He has also pointed out that the Navarra Federation of Municipalities and Councils (FNMC) has distanced itself from this event which, he said, "is an initiative of the right, of the PP, which has not had any response beyond the PP in this City Council."
In this context, he has stressed that "in this city council and certainly we as the Mayor's Office, as a government team and as a party -EH Bildu- are not going to participate in any way in the clearly partisan use of a problem that is much more serious" and that requires not "to generate tension, nor alarm, but to work and have a lot of solidarity and a lot of empathy."
The mayor has reiterated that the demonstration "is part of a strategy of the Spanish right to create tension and take advantage in a partisan way to weaken the Government"; something he has labeled as "an irresponsibility." "The last thing this issue needs is for tension to be generated, more alarm than already exists," he has pointed out, demanding "greater responsibility."
