The president of Real Madrid, Real Madrid CF, Florentino Pérez has presented this Wednesday his candidacy to continue at the head of the club in the elections on June 7, in which he will face businessman Enrique Riquelme.
During the presentation event, Pérez has defended the continuity of his sporting and institutional project and has harshly criticized the so-called Negreira case, which he has linked as one of the main elements of deterioration of the image of Spanish football.
A speech focused on refereeing controversy
In his speech, the white director assured that his intention is "not to stop while the Negreira case continues to tarnish the image of Spanish football", in reference to the scandal that investigates alleged payments for years to a former refereeing body.
Pérez has questioned the competitive normality of the refereeing system in Spain and has maintained that there is a structural problem that, in his opinion, remains unresolved, generating distrust in the professional football environment.
Criticism of the system and institutional message
The president of the white club has stated that his candidacy seeks to reinforce the transparency and institutional stability of Spanish football, and has denounced the existence of what he considers practices that have affected the credibility of sports institutions.
In this context, he has insisted on the need to review the functioning of refereeing and federative bodies, pointing out that the current situation harms the international image of the competition.
Florentino Pérez, who has held the presidency of Real Madrid CF uninterruptedly since 2009 in his second term, faces these elections in a context of institutional continuity and with a rival who seeks to dispute the club's leadership at the polls.
The electoral process on June 7 will define the continuity or change in the club's direction at a time marked by the debate on the governance of Spanish football and the investigations opened around the refereeing system.
