The President of the United States, Donald Trump, has indicated that he is about to finalize his position on negotiations with Iran and that he is heading to the White House Situation Room to adopt a "final" response to the draft agreement for the cessation of hostilities with Tehran.
In a message disseminated on social media, Trump has confirmed the essential elements of the dialogue that US and Iranian media have been advancing for weeks: Iran would commit to never developing a nuclear weapon and to reopening the Strait of Hormuz unconditionally. In exchange, the United States would lift the blockade in the strait area and withdraw the enriched uranium in a joint operation with Tehran and the United Nations nuclear agency.
The North American leader has stressed that Iran will not receive funds "until further notice" and that there is already an understanding with Tehran "on other matters of much lesser importance." At the end of his message, Trump announces the imminent start of the meeting in the White House Situation Room "to make a final decision in this regard."
Washington confirmed this Thursday a principle of agreement with Iran to extend the truce for two more months and ensure transit through the Strait of Hormuz, a text in which both parties commit to opening talks on the Iranian nuclear program. However, Iran has avoided publicly endorsing this information about the pact, which still awaits Trump's final approval.
