Coinciding with the opening to the public of the Rozalejo Palace in Pamplona, a group of people on behalf of the Group of Memorial Associations for the Demolition of the Fallen has gathered this Tuesday in front of this building, in the Plaza de Navarrería, displaying a banner demanding "once again the demolition of the Fallen."
In a note disseminated to the media, the associations have emphasized that "as long as there is no truth, justice, and reparation and guarantees of non-repetition for the victims of Francoism, true coexistence cannot be achieved."
In the same way, they have stressed that "reparation involves the demolition of Francoist symbols, starting with the Fallen."
The Monument to the Fallen of Pamplona is an imposing building erected during the Franco dictatorship to pay tribute to the fighters of the rebel side in the Civil War. For decades, it has sparked intense controversy over whether it should be demolished or re-signified. In this context, the City Council of Pamplona has initiated a process to transform it into a museum-memorial dedicated to democratic memory, and currently part of its facilities are used as a municipal exhibition hall.
