The AEMET forecasts a Saturday, May 2nd marked by rain, storms, and possible hail in a large part of the Peninsula, with warnings in Aragón, Asturias, Cantabria, Castilla y León, Castilla-La Mancha, Navarra, País Vasco, and La Rioja. Although Madrid is not among the eight communities with a warning, the forecast also includes rain and storms in the capital during part of the day, on the full festive Saturday, May 2, in the Community of Madrid.

Rain once again marks the weather this Saturday in Spain. The State Meteorological Agency forecasts a day of strong instability due to the advance of a trough that will leave cloudy skies, showers, storms, and possible hail in large areas of the Peninsula.

The warnings affect eight autonomous communities: Aragón, Asturias, Cantabria, Castilla y León, Castilla-La Mancha, Navarra, País Vasco, and La Rioja. The peninsular north will concentrate the worst part of the episode, especially during the afternoon, when the storms can gain intensity and unload with force in a short time.

The most complicated scenario is expected in Navarra, where AEMET raises the alert to orange level due to rains that could reach 30 liters per square meter in one hour in areas of the center and the Cantabrian slope. In the rest of the affected communities, the alerts will be yellow level, but with a risk of locally heavy showers, thunderstorms, and hail.

Madrid will also have rain during Saturday

The word of the day is also rain in Madrid. Although the Community of Madrid does not appear among the territories included in the main AEMET warnings, the forecast for the capital contemplates cloudy intervals with rain from dawn and cloudy skies with storms until the afternoon.

According to the forecast collected with data from AEMET, weak rains could be recorded in Madrid during the morning and a probability of storms throughout the day. Temperatures will move in mild values, with highs around 19 degrees and lows around 15.

The data is of special interest because this Saturday, May 2, is a holiday in the Community of Madrid. The rain may affect outdoor plans, travel, and events linked to the day, although the most intense risk of the storm is concentrated in the north of the peninsula.

Navarra, the most sensitive point of the storm

Navarra will be the most monitored community during the afternoon. The orange alert affects the center and the Cantabrian slope due to intense rainfall that can leave significant accumulations in a short time.

The situation could become complicated not only due to the amount of rain, but also due to the possibility of storms accompanied by hail and strong gusts of wind. This type of episode is usually especially delicate on secondary roads, mountainous areas, ravines, and urban areas with insufficient drainage.

In the rest of communities under yellow alert, AEMET also asks for attention. A yellow alert does not equate to absence of risk: it means that phenomena can be adverse, especially if the storms organize in the afternoon and discharge abruptly.

The areas where the rain may be stronger

Precipitation may appear in a good part of the territory, although not with the same intensity. The northern half will be the area most exposed to heavy showers.

The areas where more intense storms are expected are the Cantabrian area, La Rioja, northern Aragon, eastern and northern Castilla y León, northeastern Castilla-La Mancha, and Navarre. In these locations, the rain may be accompanied by electrical activity and hail.

In the southern half and in Catalonia, the rains will be weaker and occasional. In the southwest quadrant, on the other hand, they will be less likely. The Balearic Islands will remain on the sidelines of the most relevant precipitation, although with high cloudiness, while the Canary Islands will have more stable weather.

Temperature drop and strong wind gusts

The arrival of instability will also be noticeable in thermometers. Maximums will drop generally across the Peninsula, except in Ampurdán and in some points of the east and southeast, where changes will be minor or even slight increases could be recorded.

The wind will be another factor to watch. It will blow from the east and south in the Mediterranean and in the eastern half of the peninsula, with moderate intervals in the Balearic Islands, the southeastern coasts, the Ampurdán, the Iberian System, the east of the South Plateau, the Ebro Valley, and the eastern Cantabrian Sea.

In some of these areas, very strong gusts are not ruled out, especially associated with storms. In the rest of the Peninsula, southerly winds will dominate, which will turn to westerly as the day progresses.

Recommendations for a day of rain and storms

The main recommendation for this Saturday is to consult the updated forecast before traveling or engaging in outdoor activities. Rain may appear irregularly, but the most intense storms can discharge rapidly and reduce road visibility.

It is also advisable to avoid exposed areas during thunderstorms, exercise extreme caution on secondary roads, and do not cross flooded areas if sudden accumulations of water occur.

The episode does not affect all of Spain with the same force, but it leaves a clear photograph: Saturday of umbrellas, rain, and special attention in the north of the peninsula, with Navarra as the main focus of risk and Madrid under unstable weather during part of the day.
