Traveling to Andalucía on the long weekend? What to check before canceling the train or changing the hotel

The Urda accident alters connections with Madrid and forces the review of each reservation. The decisions of Renfe, Iryo and Ouigo have different scopes and do not amount to a common reopening date

Those who were planning to travel to Andalucía during the All Saints’ weekend should check their transport before changing the rest of the bookings. The Urda rail accident has interrupted the high-speed corridor with Madrid, but the commercial decisions of each operator and the available alternatives are not identical.

The first check is the specific train: company, date, service number and route. Lthe second is what solution the company offers. Only then is it advisable to decide whether to keep the stay, change transport or postpone the trip.

It should not be taken for granted that all rail connections in Andalucía are suspended. Adif announced the continuation of Madrid-Toledo and Málaga-Sevilla, two examples of why it is necessary to check the itinerary and not only the name of the city.

What Renfe’s sales block means

Renfe has halted the sale of tickets for the affected services until December 13. The measure does not mean announcing that the corridor will remain closed until that date: the resumption of service depends on Adif and could happen earlier.

For anyone who already has a reservation, what is relevant is the communication about their departure and the options the company offers. A search with no tickets for sale should not be confused with an individual resolution on all existing reservations.

Nor is it prudent to infer a reopening date from a commercial timetable. The absence of sales, a confirmed cancellation and a technical forecast for restoration are different pieces of information.

Ouigo and Iryo: check each company’s notices

Ouigo has announced the suspension of its services between Madrid and Andalucía at least until Monday, November 2 inclusive. The company has communicated the full refund of those tickets and the sending of information to the email linked to the reservation.

Iryo has reported the cancellation of services between Madrid-Puerta de Atocha and the southern corridor with no forecast for restoration.

It is also advisable to check the return trip. Solving the outbound journey by bus or plane does not ensure that the rail return will be maintained. If the trip includes several reservations, it is advisable to note the status of each one before accepting changes.

Flights: Iberia’s limit extends to November 8

Iberia has limited its fares between Madrid and Andalucía until Sunday, November 8, to a maximum of 99 euros per leg in economy and 149 euros in Business. It also announced additional capacity for Wednesday the 28th and work to expand the subsequent offer.

The price cap does not guarantee seats. Before canceling another alternative, the total number of passengers, luggage, the arrival airport, and transportation to the final destination must be checked.

If the trip ends in Córdoba, Cádiz, or Huelva, for example, the useful cost for comparison is not only the plane ticket. It must include the onward connection and the time it requires.

Buses: confirm the departure, not just the reinforcement

Socibus has announced expansions according to demand on its Madrid connections with Andújar, Córdoba, Sevilla, Huelva and Cádiz. That planning allows supply to be added, but does not confirm availability for any date or schedule.

Before buying, it is advisable to check the station, the duration of the service, and nighttime arrival, if there is one. The conditions for changes should also be read in case the rail situation evolves and the traveler reconsiders their alternative.

What to check before touching the reservations

Review the trip in this order

A modified reservation does not automatically change the others.
Reservation Check
1. Outbound train Service status and solution offered by the operator.
2. Alternative Actual seats, full price, and arrival at the final destination.
3. Accommodation Cancellation deadline, possible changes, and new arrival time.
4. Return Independent confirmation of the return trip and its conditions.

Cancelling on your own initiative is not the same as a company cancellation

The Ministry of Consumer Affairs reminds that, when the passenger decides not to travel, the refund depends on the fare and the applicable conditions. Buying a ticket online does not generally grant a 14-day right of withdrawal. The situation is different when the company cancels or a significant delay occurs.

That is why it is advisable to identify which option is being accepted in the app: a voluntary cancellation, a refund for a canceled service, or a change offered by the company.

With accommodation, it is advisable to contact them before the modification deadline expires. Explaining the incident and requesting a written response makes it possible to know the real options without assuming a refund that has not yet been accepted.

Finally, the original reservations and the new confirmations must be kept. If the arrival time is changed, it is also advisable to notify the establishment to avoid a transportation delay ending up becoming an additional problem upon check-in.
