Airbus has decided to conclude the negotiation table opened regarding the strike promoted by the unions CGT, UGT, and ÚTIL, after no understanding was reached yesterday to suspend or postpone the strikes, a condition that the company considered essential to continue advancing in the dialogue, as has been officially communicated by the Interconfederal Mediation and Arbitration Service (SIMA).
The company adopts this measure after the support shown last Monday by the employees gathered in assemblies, who supported the continuation of the protests.
In that internal consultation, nearly 1,000 professionals, out of a total workforce of about 15,000 workers at Airbus in Spain, leaned towards maintaining the strike call.
After the closure of this specific mediation space, the aircraft manufacturer will continue the conversations through a second negotiation table within the SIMA framework itself.
This other mediation body was initiated at the request of Airbus management at the end of July, once a referendum was held open to the entire workforce.
In this alternative forum, the union sections that are not affiliated with the strike call participate.
Proposal for improvements and effects on competitiveness
In the context of these negotiations, Airbus conveyed a new proposal to the union representatives last Thursday.
According to the information provided by the company, the proposal incorporates additional improvements over previous offers, as well as the specific clarifications that had been requested by the parties.
The company defines this proposal as "balanced and fair," understanding that it strengthens the working conditions of the entire workforce and, at the same time, safeguards the "competitive position" of the consortium both in the national and international markets.
Sources from the European group insist on their willingness to continue negotiating and on their goal of achieving "social peace" that allows closing the open conflict in their workplaces in Spain.
Likewise, management emphasizes that its main strategic priority remains to ensure "the stability of the company," protect the well-being and safety of its personnel, and ensure the continuity of its industrial activity and the weight it maintains within the global structure of Airbus.
