The general secretary of UGT, Pepe Álvarez, has pointed out that the union organizations will pronounce themselves on the 'Plus Ultra' case, in which former President of the Government José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero has been implicated, when they have more elements and data to do so. In the meantime, he has reiterated his confidence in the innocence of the former leader and insisted on the need to respect the course of justice.
"Mr. Zapatero has the right to defend himself. So far, what we have are reports from the UCO, which do not always get it right and which sometimes have quite erroneous conclusions," Álvarez stated in declarations to the media this Saturday in Terrassa (Barcelona) before the 50th anniversary of the Assemblea de Terrassa.
When asked about a possible early election by the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, the UGT leader argued that the legislature should be exhausted in order to resolve "some of the very serious problems this country has."
In this regard, he stressed the importance of completing initiatives such as the Dependency Law, so that it can be fully applied in the autonomous communities: "They have to dedicate themselves to that and not to lowering taxes, as some do."
He admitted that the political and social moment is "complex and difficult" and pointed out that there are numerous judicial proceedings underway, which do not only affect the PSOE, he recalled, but also the PP: "Let's give time to time and see what happens," he concluded.
