Anthropic has agreed to spend about 45 billion dollars, around 38 billion euros, to rent computing capacity from Nscale in West Virginia for six years. The contract will cover approximately 460 megawatts and will use the next generation of Nvidia Vera Rubin chips.
The operation shows to what extent large artificial intelligence companies are competing to secure electricity, data centers, and processors even before they are available.
Anthropic will not buy the center or the chips. It will rent computing capacity.
The Vera Rubin systems are expected to start coming online by the end of 2027.
460 MW to run AI models
The magnitude of the agreement can be understood by its power.
Nscale will reserve around 460 MW for Anthropic's workloads, which increasingly need capacity to train and run models like Claude and tools like Claude Code.
The contract will last for at least six years.
A project that needed a big client
The agreement gives commercial viability to the Nscale campus in West Virginia.
In large data centers, securing a customer willing to commit billions over several years is key to financing the electrical and technological infrastructure.
