Colombia will have a prominent presence at the Global Birdfair 2026 ornithological tourism fair, which will be held at the Rutland Nature Reserve (United Kingdom) from Friday, July 10 to Sunday, July 12. During the meeting, Colombian institutions will seek to consolidate the country's image as an international benchmark in birdwatching tourism.
As detailed in a press release, the country will be represented by ProColombia, a public entity responsible for promoting investments, exports, and tourism. The official delegation will be accompanied by companies specialized in ornithology, Truman Journeys and Nature Colombia, which will present their birdwatching experience offerings.
The Andean country is home to more than 1,954 bird species, the highest number recorded globally, of which about 82 are endemic and more than 150 are migratory species that use Colombia as a route or destination.
Around 10% of the planet's biodiversity is located in Colombia, distributed across more than 300 different ecosystems, including the Andes, the Amazon rainforest, desert areas, and the Caribbean and Pacific coasts. In 2025, the most outstanding territories for ornithological tourism were located in the departments of Meta, Cundinamarca, Valle del Cauca, Antioquia, and Caldas.
Colombia also emerged as the winning country in the latest Global Big Day, one of the most recognized bird counting events in the world, which is celebrated in May under the organization of the Cornell University Laboratory of Ornithology (United States). Since 2017, the country has won nine editions.
