Fraternidad-Muprespa has conveyed its "deepest condolences to his family and closest circle" for the death of its former president, Carlos Espinosa de los Monteros, who passed away last Saturday at the age of 82. The entity has highlighted the contribution made by someone it considers "a key figure in the recent history of the entity," emphasizing that his legacy "will always be linked to the growth and social commitment that characterize Fraternidad-Muprespa."
Carlos Espinosa de los Monteros y Bernaldo de Quirós presided over this mutual collaborator with Social Security from 1998 until last June, a period in which he took the lead during a decisive time for its institutional consolidation.
In an official statement, the organization expresses that it "deeply" regrets the disappearance of someone who was a "key figure" for its development and for strengthening its position within the Social Security system.
During his presidency, Espinosa de los Monteros advocated for a management model focused on good corporate governance, the modernization and digitalization of services, as well as the promotion of a preventive culture, significantly contributing to the evolution of the mutual and to the intensification of its commitment to companies, workers, and Social Security itself.
Throughout his extensive professional career, he held high-responsibility positions both in public administration and in the private sector, backed by a solid academic background with a degree in Law from UCM, in Business Administration from Icade, and an MBA from Northwestern University in Illinois.
In the public sphere, the IV Marquis of Valtierra belonged to the Corps of Commercial Technicians and State Economists, was the commercial attaché of Spain in Chicago, commercial director of the National Institute of Industry (INI), president of Iberia, and high commissioner of the Brand Spain with the rank of Secretary of State.
In the private sector, he held positions such as president and CEO of Mercedes-Benz Spain, president of González Byass, vice president and independent director of Inditex, and director in companies such as Acciona and Schindler.
In a message disseminated on the occasion of his farewell last June, Espinosa de los Monteros himself stated that he left the presidency with "the satisfaction of having contributed to the strengthening of a centenary institution that has known how to evolve without renouncing its principles and values."
In that same communication, he also emphasized that "the solidity of the management model of Fraternidad-Muprespa, the quality of its professionals, and the commitment of its governing bodies constitute the best guarantee to continue advancing and providing an increasingly effective and close service."
His trajectory was recognized with numerous distinctions and official decorations, among which are the Grand Cross of the Order of Isabella the Catholic, the Grand Cross of the Order of Civil Merit, and the Band of the Mexican Order of the Aztec Eagle, the highest decoration awarded by the Government of Mexico to foreign personalities.
In the business field, he was awarded various prizes for his career, such as the one granted by the Executives Magazine, the Diego de Covarrubias Honor Award, the Exemplary Spaniards Award, the recognition as Leader of the Year, and the Excellence in Business Award.
