The arrival of summer brings with it one of the most anticipated incomes for millions of pensioners in Spain: the June extra payment. In this extraordinary payroll, those who are fully entitled receive two incomes in the same month: the usual pension and an equivalent amount corresponding to the additional payment.
In the case of the Social Security, the payment of these benefits usually occurs between the 22nd and 26th of each month, although the exact day depends on each banking entity.
When the summer extra payment is collected in 2026
The summer extra payment is paid along with the ordinary pension in June. This means that many pensioners will see a double income reflected in their bank account in the coming days.
However, the schedule varies depending on the bank, which is responsible for advancing the payment. These are the planned dates:
- Bankinter: June 22
- Unicaja Banco: June 22
- Banco Santander: June 23
- CaixaBank: June 24
- BBVA: June 25
- Banco Sabadell: June 25
- Abanca: June 25
In practice, this means that many pensioners will receive their income between June 22 and June 25, depending on the entity they work with.
How much is collected with the extra payment
Pensioners who are fully entitled to the extra payment will receive an amount equivalent to their monthly pension, so the June income can be doubled.
In the Spanish system, most pensions are paid in 14 installments per year (12 ordinary monthly payments plus two extraordinary payments in summer and Christmas).
Who does not receive the full extra payment
Not all pensioners receive this amount in full. There are several scenarios:
Pensions with 12 installments
Some pensions do not have separate extraordinary payments; instead, the amount is prorated over 12 monthly installments. In these cases, the pensioner receives the same amount each month, but distributed evenly throughout the year.
Pensions for work accidents or occupational diseases
In these cases, the regulations may imply different conditions, and extraordinary payments are not always received under the same terms.
New pensioners or recent retirements
Those who have recently retired or started receiving their pension before June do not receive the full payment. The amount is calculated proportionally to the time accrued in the corresponding period.
How the extra payment is calculated
The extraordinary summer payment is generated progressively between December 1 and May 31, while the Christmas payment is calculated between June 1 and November 30.
This means that the final amount depends on the time contributed in each period.
