The Venezuelan subsidiary of Telefónica has decided to unify the position of chief executive officer, held by Antonio Valente Izzi since 2024, with the functions of president that José Luis Rodríguez Zarco had assumed until now. The latter, after eight years with the company, will return to Spain at the end of June for "personal and family reasons," according to a company statement.
Valente, a Venezuelan national, holds a degree in Public Accounting from the Universidad Católica Andrés Bello and an MBA with a specialization in Finance Management from the Universidad Metropolitana, as well as a master's degree in Corporate Tax Management from the same institution.
With more than twenty years of experience in various administrative and financial areas of Telefónica in Venezuela, he was promoted to financial director in 2018 and, since October 2024, has served as CEO of the operator in the country.
Telefónica has expressed its gratitude to Rodríguez Zarco for his "commitment and dedication" over more than 25 years in Latin America, where he has developed his career in markets such as Argentina and Venezuela.
Movistar remains the leading mobile telephony operator in Venezuela, with over 10 million users, a 5G network being deployed, a range of differentiated plans and services, and a robust catalog of solutions for both SMEs and large corporations.
In parallel, the 'telecom' company chaired by Marc Murtra maintains its strategic plan to progressively withdraw from the Venezuelan market, in line with the roadmap that has already led to its exit from Argentina, Peru, Uruguay, Ecuador, and Mexico.
