The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) considers that Peru is in a position to take advantage of the current international boom in critical minerals, including lithium and uranium. To achieve this, the organization suggests that the country strengthen spaces for dialogue and coordination between the State, the private sector, academia, and communities in the mining environment.

"The critical point is dialogue [...]. We must define public policies based on the most important aspects that allow catalyzing private investment in critical minerals," stated the investment specialist at BID Invest, Daniel Corbetto, during an event organized by the Ministry of Energy and Mines (Minem) and reported by the agency "Andina".

The expert has emphasized that Peru has clear competitive advantages to consolidate itself in the value chain of critical minerals, relying on the extensive track record that the country has accumulated in the extractive industry over decades.

Corbetto has described the exploitation of these resources as a "strategic opportunity" for mining to continue being a pillar of national economic growth. At the same time, he has insisted that new investments must be accompanied by rigorous environmental and social due diligence standards.

"We are a mining country, we enjoy an 'expertise' that very few geographies have. On that basis, which is very robust, we can build capabilities in lithium and uranium and incorporate the best international practices," he concluded.
